OWVA- Oregon Primary Races

Note from executive director, Greg Warnock:

OWVA rarely gets involved in Primary campaign races, unless candidates request an endorsement.

In 2008's Primary season, only four candidates asked for OWVA's endorsement.

  1. Donna Nelson (R)- Yamhill County Commissioner position.  Donna is an honorary member of OWVA, and 2007 recipient of OWVA's Citizenship Award.  Her dedication to the troops and vets is way beyond proven.  She is one of the most vocal supporters of our issues, and has worked tirelessly for our causes.  We will always support Donna for whatever office she seeks.
  2. Bruce Cuff (R)- HD17 candidate.  Bruce is involved in a 5 way race for HD5's seat.  We endorsed him as the only veteran running- and see him as friendly to our causes and a candidate of the highest quality.
  3. Jim Fox (R) - HD2 candidate.  Jim's interview with OWVA board members went extremely well, and his answers to our questionnaire were exactly what we were looking for in a candidate.  HD2 is a tough race, with two likeable candidates.  Jim was selected over his opponent primarily because of he is a combat vet, who has a very personal desire to see improvements in veteran services.
  4. Kevin Mannix (R) - CD5.  Absolutely no other candidate in the congressional race has demonstrated a dedication to veteran issues as Kevin Mannix, on either side of the R and D spectrum.  Kevin has helped raise over $90,000.00 for veteran programs and projects since 2002- and is a board member of the Military Family Support Foundation.  There is no question who we support in the congressional race this year.

One thing we are surprised about is that no Democrats have sought a Primary race endorsement from us yet this year.  OWVA is a bi-partisan endorser, so we expected some requests, and developed a questionnaire for all candidates, to aid in our selection process.  We have been around long enough, and have endorsed more than 80 candidates in the past, so...  Who knows?

OWVA has a history of supporting both Republicans and Democrats in the General Election- at a ratio that usually ends up 60/40% respectively.

Candidates who seek an endorsement from OWVA in the General Election should submit an email request to: Staff@owva.org
